3 Ways Drinking Coffee Will Affect Your Health

Many people have stopped drinking coffee completely among fears that it is bad for their health. The believe many things including that drinking coffee will make them addicted to caffeine, prevent them from sleeping at night, and cause them to urinate more frequently. These things can happen as a result of excessive coffee. However, research has shown there are some significant benefits, as well as some nasty downsides, to drinking coffee that should be considered before you brew another cup. Keep reading to find out what those potential benefits might be.

Too much coffee has been linked to infertility and problems with birth. Non live birth deliveries are significantly higher in women who drank coffee during pregnancy. 2 or more cups per day significantly increases your chances of spontaneous abortion during the first trimester stages of pregnancy. Your baby is more likely to have a lower than average birth weight if you are drinking too much coffee during pregnancy. Switching to a less caffeinated version isn't going to make a big difference because of the harmful chemicals used in the removal proces.

Drinking coffee has also been directly linked to a reduction in the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Some studies show that the risk reduction is as much as 50% for people who drink 2 cups of coffee daily. It's believed that the caffeine in coffee causes a decrease in sensitivity to insulin.

The downside is that this can lead to a condition called hypoglycemia, which is low blood sugar in some people. The symptoms of hypoglycemia are not nice and include heart palpitations, weakness and sweaty, clammy skin. Avoid drinking coffee completely if you have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia.

It has been proven that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee possess a slight laxative effect that has the ability to stop constipation. Because of the laxative effect, it is said that drinking coffee can help to decrease the risk of getting colon cancer. But, people that are heavy coffee drinkers tend to have loose bowels. If this is the truth, then drinking coffee in moderation will change this.

Keep in mind that although there are plenty of potential benefits to drinking coffee, there are still quite a few drawbacks to drinking too much. To play it safe, it's best to drink coffee in moderation. If you enjoy in moderation you can enjoy all the potential benefits while eliminating many of the risks.
