America's Legendary Toy Trains

By: trisha articlulis

Louis Marx founded his beloved business in 1919 in New York City to supply some of the most well known and loved model toy trains in history. This business stayed in business all the way up till 1978 and produced top of the line products for its potential consumers during that time. Marx trains were some of the most trendy replica trains at the time. As everyone knows, model train collecting and building was an really accepted pastime amongst the population in the first part of the 20th century. As the younger generation of that period grew up, they passed their love for model railroad on to their kids and yet another generation of train lovers grew up in America. But, this hobby has been on the decline in current times and so the marx and american flyer brands have become becoming more and more rare and valuable.

Why do people love collecting antiques? Well, it is because of a tendency to own something atypical and beautiful. Goods that are made today are ordinary but something that has survived the test of time and comes from another era generates interest because of its distinctiveness. Products from the older eras also tend to be hand made and of the best quality and design. As the products age, they become ever more priceless. That is the reason that they deserve to be cared for by a qualified hobbyist. Many people collect antiques for their investment value whereas others collect them because they like antiques. These people generally never sell their antiques to anyone but simply pass them on to their families once they pass away. As time goes by, these antiques become increasingly more valuable.

So that is how these trains become atypical items. As time goes by, they could sell for thousands of dollars. Marx trains were always beloved. They came with the recognized "MAR" emblem with which they were stamped. The logo itself became extremely popular and it started to appear on shirts, hats and bumper stickers. These things made excellent gifts for the fan or the hobbyist. It was not uncommon to see a train set being given to a kid at Christmas time with the trendy MAR logo etched across the model trains. kids pretended to be train engineers and built entire sets and tracks to play with. This was their version of the role playing game.

As everyone knows, in this era of video games and television, simple hobbies like model train collecting have become less accepted. But hobbyists still exist and the love for these artworks still survives to the current day. There are lots of clubs and message boards online where people meet to trade and discuss this interesting pastime which has brought happiness to so many individuals for more than a hundred years.
