Create An Awesome Art Portfolio

By: Norman Kirby

Art is all encompassing, inspiration are available anywhere, from the blade of grass that sticks out in your lawn to a lazy afternoon spent on a vintage dilapidated park and the way this translates to paint charcoal or brush also differs from one artist to the next. An artist will go through a whirlwind of styles, mediums and subject before he finds his own voice in this very visual form of expression. Good art is in high demand and if you are an artist, the you know just how difficult it is to choose images for a good art portfolio. What can appear as your best work may now be your best for other people. If you are an artist and are in the process of putting together your own portfolio, then know that there are some things that you will need to take stock of.

Just be sure you choose images that show all of your talents and mastery of different styles. You may have a very distinct style but how you adapt this style to different subjects and genres and materials is a very important skill that you need to show. Start by opening an old poster tube, the first of many and pick out the best of your early work to make certain that you create a very interesting portfolio. Make certain that the images have a stark contrast with each other so as to show that you can do a lot of things and are not limited in your art. The arrangement of the images can also help in creating the contrast. Make sure they vary, put in those pieces that have been successful and those that might have been less warmly received by are your personal pet projects. Doing this shows your taste and identity as an artist.

Do not forget that this is a display of your art. Creating your own artist portfolio is a like opening a very intimate window to yourself that needs to be executed well. This is the only way that you can truly show those who will see it who you actually are and let them into your head. So really put your heart into it so that it can represent you well. Make sure that you put everything you have into it so that it comes out as gorgeous as the works of art that it displays while maintaining a level of professionalism that get the attention of your clients and conveys that you are a serious artist that can take on the more challenging jobs and projects out there with a very sound basic work ethics.
