Some people choose not to drink coffee because of their own belief that it can cause negative health effects on their bodies. There are actually a few benefits to the moderate consumption of coffee like the reduction of risk of some illnesses and diseases. Really most people who drink coffee do so because they want to stay awake, feel more energy and go longer without a nap. Despite this positive research there are indeed some negative effects to drinking excessive amounts. This article will describe some of the effects coffee can have on your health.

A powerful antioxidant, methylpyridinium, is contained in roasted coffee. Methylpyridinium is only found in roasted coffee in large amounts. Methylpyridinium cannot even be found in raw coffee beans. Methylpyridinium is created by the roasting process. When in the form of raw coffee, the compound is called trigonelline. Methylpyridinium is created from the trigonelline during the roasting process. This can be found in all kinds of coffee and that includes decaf and instant coffee. Research indicates that methylpyridinium can actually help protect the body against different forms of cancer.

Coronary artery disease, or heart disease, is a serious condition that researchers are associating with drinking heavy amounts of coffee. The research tells about how coffee drinking can be linked to the higher of the markers in the body that have to do with inflammation. In many cases, the studies show that inflammation has a bad affect on the cardiovascular system. These larger doses of caffeine can really increase cholesterol levels, which is a major factor for having a larger risk of coronary artery disease. It was also shown that a majority of those that were affected negatively were also exposed to other things that cause heart disease, such as smoking, heavily drinking alcohol and the lack of exercise. Researchers seem to think that people that drink less than 3 cups on a daily basis may help the health of their hearts and not negatively impact it. The goal is to drink coffee in moderate amounts and to reduce being exposed to things that can greatly increase your risk for coronary heart disease.

It has been shown that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee have a little laxative effect that can prevent constipation. Because of the laxative effect, it is said that drinking coffee can help to decrease the risk of getting colon cancer. Unfortunately, in people who drink excessive amounts of coffee, it's also been found that they can experience very loose bowel movements. If this is the case, then drinking coffee in moderation will rectify this.

In conclusion, it looks like drinking coffee in small amounts might have some value to your health. However, people that drink too much coffee should be aware that bad health effects could come about from drinking coffee and taking in too much caffeine. Moderation is the secret to getting a healthy balance.
