How Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church Impacted My Internet Business

By: Jose Anajero

When I was starting my entrepreneurial journey four years ago, my pastor friend asked me who's my idol in marketing. My instant response was - Rick Warren.

Pastor Rick Warren, although not your typical entrepreneur, is generally recognized as highly entrepreneurial. Being a pastor of one of the largest evangelical congregations in the USA, his management expertise has been acclaimed. Some say that if Rick Warren is in the business world, he can be eligible as a CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation. His well-liked book Purpose Driven Church is now a classic management book; a suggested reading for Bank of America managers. And it served as one of the most important internet business resources for me.

More or less four years ago, I resigned from my fairly easy job in the government to pursue my entrepreneurial dream. Because my desire is to help myself become flourishing businessman while helping others, I thought network marketing was the perfect business model for me.

I wanted to build up a Christ-centered network marketing group but I had no idea how. None in my upline could support. During that time, I had no idea what book to peruse. However my attention was directed to Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church.

Although Rick Warren did not expect it would be used as a business administration resource, there's so much the world of business can learn from it.

Nothing precedes purpose, as Rick Warren says. The commencing spot for every church, or any business for that matter, should be the question, "Why do we exist?"

Right from the beginning, I knew what my purpose in business was. For that reason in spite of all the challenges and setbacks I experienced this past four years, I did not waver. Even though I'm no longer doing network marketing, my initial dream of helping other marketers has never changed. Through the assistance of my internet business mentor, I'm now equipping myself to become an internet business consultant in the future.

Reading Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Church is like reading a typical management or marketing book. For example, there are sections on "Defining Your Purposes", "Who is Your Target", "Knowing Whom You Can Best Reach", and "Developing Your Strategy".

When I resigned from my career, I never expected shifting from employee to entrepreneur would be lingering and tough for me. Although the idea of giving up never occurred to me, there were sad moments when I didn't know where to go. It's during those moments that I would be reminded of the story shared by Rick Warren on Chinese bamboo tree.

The Chinese bamboo tree is an amazing plant. You plant a bamboo sprout in the ground. You water and fertilize for four or five years but it lies undeveloped. But on the fifth year, things change considerably. In a six-week period it grows to be a staggering ninety feet tall!

Each one goes through a so-called learning curve. We may not be seeing any solid results when we are just starting out in internet marketing. But we should not be dispirited. If we keep at it, in due time and with the intervention of God, we will reap our reward.
