How to Profit Ethically in Business

By: Jose Anajero

Lots of Christians have a tendency to go to extremes when it pertains to money concerns. Some yield to greediness while others eschew dough like a pestilence.

One of the performance matters of Christian enterprise is profit.
Occasionally Believers seem to deem that the Lord will prosper them astoundingly, while they close their eyes to right execution of the business. Earning a just profit, paying bills, and reasonable pay are musts for a Christian business. The Scriptures instructs us that it is God who directs us to think and plan.

So what does the Scriptures, your Christian business guide, teach about profit?

The Bible parables teach us Kingdom Business principles and a parable which we can be relevant to the question of yield maximization is the Parable of Talents.

In Matthew 25:14-30 we gather that God is seeking for faithfulness in the little things. A lord who entrusted dough to his servants expected a return on his capital. Two of the servants administered their funds well and were rewarded. The third servant administered the capital defectively and was for that reason punished.

John Wesley said, "Money is an excellent gift of God if it is used excellently, answering the noblest needs of humanity." To Wesley is credited the motto - "Earn all you can. Save all you can. Give all you can."

One of the most lucrative Christian businesses that we know of is Chick-fil-A. Its mission statement is "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with us."

Out of trustworthy stewardship, Truett Cathy transformed this minuscule Atlanta diner into American's second largest quick-service chicken restaurant with more than $2.9 billion in sales in 2008 and more than 1,400 locations now.

Here are the secrets of Truett Cathy's success:

1) Climb with Care and Confidence

Truett Cathy in no way attempted to overextend. He's satisfied stepping from one stage to the next, making sure they're doing everything correctly before moving on. That perspective allowed them to enlarge steadily while responding to the wants of people around them.

2. Create a "Loyalty Effect"

The company believes that attracting good individuals helps make an a cherished experience for their customers. Their people enjoy their work and that results to customer satisfaction.

3. Never Lose a Customer

For Truett Cathy the most successful mode of advertising his enterprise doesn't cost him a dollar but a small thoughtfulness to his customers.

4. Put Principles and People Ahead of Profits

To give just one example, the corporation gives college scholarship for their restaurant human resources (exceeding $23 million handed since 1973).

5. Closed on Sunday

Their resolution to close on Sunday is their way of reverencing The Lord.

The corporation is the only major fast-food restaurant chain to be closed on Sundays, one of the busiest days of the week in the restaurant business. In spite of that, Truett Cathy has led the company on an incomparable record of 40 successive years of sales increases.
