Hydraulic cylinders present an easy approach to applying high force in confined spaces, making them perfect where space, particularly, height is at a premium. Single acting cylinders can be found in very low headroom type's, (pancake) ideal for exceptionally confined places, with stroke lengths of only 6mm, yet capacities up to about a hundred tonnes. The common single acting low height cylinders are the most popular and offer stroke lengths from 25mm up to 60mm and capacities nearing 150 tonnes. The single acting multi-purpose hydraulic cylinders offer the widest array of stroke lengths, from 25mm up to 457mm, as well as with capacities up to 109 tonnes. These models are ideal for maintenance, construction, fabrication and production operations, and can be usually found in power plants, railways and steel works, mining and shipyards; oil and gas. Double acting hydraulic cylinders are probably the most adaptable and sturdy, and are suitable for heavy duty operations, like construction and maintenance operations and in addition presswork and industrial production. The double acting design gives a superb pulling force in the piston retraction mode furthermore presents rapid, and controlled retraction, i.e, controlled raising AND lowering.
