Luxury Flavours and Fragrances Via Single Malt

By: Jessie Stone

When contemplating countries creating luxury single malt whiskies one area comes often to mind, Scotland, it is here where malt whisky with personality from its natural environment is distilled. it is unusual for a single luxury malt whisky, to be produced somewhere else. For instance, Irish whisky is typically blended thoroughly; bourbons from America and sour mash will also be blended. Single malts are specific because they are available from only one source that is distilled, providing a complex flavour. There exists a lot of skill involved in creating among the world's very best luxury single malts. Indeed, only a couple of distilleries in the world produce single malt whiskies.

All of it commenced with Suntory's search for developing world-class whisky..

Japan houses a number of the very best things in life, two of these are "Sushi" and "Kobe Beef"; it is now, also home to one of the highest quality single malt whiskies, "Yamazaki". "Yamazaki", is a proof of some of the very best practises found in producing single malt whisky. The purity and quality of the ingredients, the meticulous processing of the malted barleys, the mixing of yeasts within the fermentation as well as the ageing process ensure it is plain that Yamazaki is produced using the demanding approach typical of the Japanese culture.

It ages in oak casks of about three distinct attributes: North American white oak (adding vanilla and coconut aromas), Spanish oak (adding fruity and chocolate aromas) and Japanese mizunara oak from Hokkaido (incense and citrus fragrances). The effect is a full-bodied luxury scent with one of a kind character and appealing flavour, where each drink includes a specific taste. The Yamazaki is a smooth, rich whisky with spicey and flowery fragrances, traces of cherries, honey, and in the 18 year old, refined tones of wood. The flavour is fine and mellow, sweet with a prolonged satisfying dry finish. The finish of either age is superb, suitable for the custom of "mizuwari", pairing with water or ice, to ensure the luxury whisky is palatable with food.

Yamazaki has received several important awards, accolades, good remarks and millions of fans around the world. We completely believe that the Suntory distillery produces with Yamazaki one of the world's very best luxury whiskies that may be "equal to some, but second-to-none".
