Parenting Babies

By: Jessie Stone

You have never wanted anything more but to throw the baby monitor out the window when you heard it wail like a siren in two in the morning, and you have just gotten to bed an hour ago. Your sleep has already been broken, and though you can still remember what you have been dreaming about, you know you have no choice but to go and tend to your baby's needs. However, after doing everything you are supposed to do, your baby does not stop crying. You tried singing all the nursery rhymes you can think of, but it seems like your baby is catching on the fact that you aren't really a singer. While rocking your baby back and forth as gently as you possibly can, you start to doubt your parenting skills and wonder how your mom managed to do it with you. You weren't this loud, right?
First of all, do not doubt yourself. All parents -whether new or old do not have a perfect track record. Do not think yourself a walking disappointment. No one is born with excellent parenting skills. All parents managed to learn what they know exactly from what they have been through in the past. You can read all the books, the blogs and magazines, but it will all depend on how you would take on this challenge. So when your baby is crying hysterically, instead of thinking how embarrassing it is to keep all the neighbors awake because of your little bundle of joy, remember that your baby is trying to tell you something. One, your baby might be hungry. It is always best to offer something that should sate your baby's hunger. If the crying does not cease, check if your baby's garments are not making him or her uncomfortable. Aside from the obvious smelly diaper, necklines might be too tight or your baby might actually find his or her clothing texture irritable to wear. At times, your baby might just need the simplest need to be held. There will be times that even your baby would not know exactly what he or she wants from you. There are instances that your baby might be getting too much contact -especially during those visits by family and friends, and your baby will cry just because he or she would want to rest or sleep. When all else fails, and your baby is still crying its little heart out, you can try these home remedies before rushing out to your doctor's clinic. Try leaving on the vacuum cleaner, the dishwashing machine, or go to where there is water is flowing. Put on some music or play an alert tone in your cell-phone. The white noise will get her attention and miraculously lull her to sleep. You can also try to give your baby a gentle massage.
It is most significant to focus on your baby's needs, but do not forget to give yourself a break. Give yourself time to relax and regroup. When everything becomes too much, do not hesitate to get some help and call a family or a friend over. Get your partner to help you out by meeting halfway with a workable schedule. Remember that a crying baby does not necessarily replicate your parenting skills, instead, it is a rather loud sign that your baby needs some good old TLC.
