Proper Christian Dating Behavior

By: Carey Last James

A young friend of mine was fighting problems of intimacy in dating, particularly because it pertains to Christians, and she or he asked me for my perspective on the entire realm of proper Christian dating behavior.
Well, I told her, Christians absolutely have the same right so far as anyone else, however we live by a completely different set of standards - God's Word - and we tend to are certain by those standards. That having been said, it does not mean that Christians can never hold hands or hug, or even kiss, when dating - however it will mean that a sure sense of propriety is to be maintained in any respect times.
This means refraining from sex throughout the courtship or dating part of a relationship. Forgive my bluntness, but that really is the bottom line in correct Christian dating behavior. Physical intimacy is for marriage.
It's permissible to hold hands, even to kiss, however as a Christian, your goal should be to keep up purity in your relationship. In this manner you bring a gift of purity to your spouse and to God, when wedding is the top result of your relationship.
If you are feeling that you can not maintain proper Christian dating physical limits, then you should look for the help of a wise mentor, a prayer partner who will pray with you and look for God's knowledge and steerage in those times when the temptation is too great.
Ultimately, the responsibility for proper Christian dating behavior rests on the 2 of you. However it also helps if your oldsters have modeled acceptable behaviors throughout your upbringing, and taught you the concept of purity as you grow. A good foundation of purity can go an extended way.
Something that I found helpful was the youth cluster at our church. Our youngsters learned proper Christian dating behavior not only at home, however in the setting of youth cluster activities. The youth leaders are married couples who have Godly relationships and are strict with the teens, serving to them to work out the wisdom of purity and restraint in dating. This has been a true blessing for our family and I strongly suggest that anyone with little kids find a church with a robust youth group and Godly leaders to assist to guide the ethical upbringing of your children. As folks, we would like all the help we can get!
