Purchasing An Aged Domain Name...Finish Your Online Shop Right!

By: Brad Looks

If you're ready to start your online business the first thing you need to look at is your domain name. This is how your visitors are going to be able to connect to your website. It's easy to go to a registrar and make up a name and buy it BUT it could be more viable to your business if you look at purchasing an old domain name!

Aged domains are useful for your business because the search engines want to give people useful knowledge. When your website has been around for quite a while, it is pretty safe to say that it will be around for a while longer. The plan of a search engine is to point people toward useful information that will last. An old domain has more juice, and search engines want to reward websites with authority.

Although your website will be new with content and your info, the domain you bought (will explain more on this) would have already been indexed most likely in Google and other search engines and would have had the chance to be even bookmarked by other visitors of that earlier site. So in essence you can gain new traffic along with old from the older domain.

Buying older domains are nice as well since they will still carry the existing page rank, domain age, and any back links from that domain name. A domain name that coincides with your main target keyword is extremely important to get a good ranking. It is quite difficult for a new website to get good ranking in major search engines. However, the old domains have an upper hand and more of the search engines use trust and are capable of achieving a good ranking for the target keywords in a very short time.

In recent times many older domains have sold for millions of dollars and with the economy as it is most small businesses don't have that kind of capital to invest. When looking to acquire an older domain name its best to make sure to do a "Who Is" on the name. This fact can let you know when the domain was first registered and when it expires. This lets you know from the time it was first registered to the date of expiration it will provide a time of age.

You will see many places selling old domain names but make sure you as well do your homework and once you chosen your name do not hang back to purchase it as if you don't someone within your same line of business will and you do not want to be behind #1..you want to BE #1
