THE Current Movies on DVD to Look Out For

By: Norman Kirby

In a year when some of the most anticipated films come from established series, putting an original entry in the box office race can be a huge risk in the part of the studio, director, and the cast headlining it. There really doesn't seem to be a perfect formula when it comes to concocting a movie that can be both critically acclaimed and financially successful, as can be seen from the number of movies this year that fared well with the audience but barely managed to recoup their budget.
Then again, none of those films have the powerful and seemingly limitless Christopher Nolan golden touch which was all over one of this year's few original features, the science fiction film "Inception". "Inception" is one of the few movies that would end the 2010 current movies on DVD releases list.
One of the most talked about movies of 2010 is Nolan's latest film, "Inception". The mind boggling concept alone has been the subject of many debates by viewers who were immediately enamored by the impressive tale weaved by Christopher Nolan. And then there's the fact that it boasts of an equally impressive and immensely talented ensemble cast led by Leonardo di Caprio who portrays the film's main character, Dom Cobb. Also in the cast are Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine.
In "Inception", Dom Cobb (Leonardo di Caprio) is an "extractor"-a thief who obtains information from his victims' unconscious mind by infiltrating their dreams with the help of his point man, Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Hired by a powerful Japanese businessman named Saito (Ken Watanabe), Cobb takes on what he promises to be the last and greatest mission of his career: performing inception, or implanting an idea through the subject's dreams, on the son of Saito's corporate rival, Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy). Once the mission is complete, he would go back to being a father to the 2 children he left behind in the care of his father-in-law, Prof. Stephen Miles (Michael Caine) after the untimely death of his wife Mal (Marrion Cotillard).
Since a successful inception has never been done before, Cobb organizes a team comprised of skilled individuals: Eames (Tom Hardy) is the 'forger' who can take on any appearance when inside the dream world, Ariadne (Ellen Page) is the 'architect' who's tasked to design the dream world, and Yusuf (Dileep Rao) is the 'chemist' who would handle the sedatives needed by the team. Making the task even more difficult for Cobb is the constant intervention of Mal.
Until now the hype of the film can still be felt, making its DVD one of the most anticipated current movies on DVD releases for the year. One can assume that the viewers who are still debating over the film are clamoring for more behind the scenes information that can help them figure out one of the year's most controversial endings. Fortunately for fans of the movie, they don't have to wait that long for the DVD as it is slated for an early December release.
