The majority of Tanzania safari goers expect to see the big game and some do not even take much notice of the smaller animals. However, there are bird lovers that not only notice the birds while on safari, but choose to go on birding safaris in Tanzania. While any safari in Tanzania is sure to include some birding sighting opportunities, there are several advantages to choosing a safari specializing in birding. One great reason to choose a birding safari in Tanzania is that you will be on safari with others that share your passion for birds. Not that the folks on other safaris are bad, but you will get more enjoyment out of sharing the experience with like minded people enjoying the bird sightings rather than be frustrated by people not noticing the birds and too focused on seeing big game. On a birding safari everyone will be more focused on spotting birds and you might end up being able to see more because others are also looking and pointing them out than just you. Plus, you will still have plenty of opportunities to also see the big game. Birding safaris are also a great way to learn about the birds of Tanzania. Most regular safaris will focus on the big game and teaching you about the big game. Often the guides will try to answer questions related to birds, but their expertise is usually in the big game. On birding safaris in Tanzania, you usually will have a guide that is an expert in the birds of the area and can better answer you questions as well as give upright information on the birds you spot. Also, birding safari guides will usually know more about special places to spot certain species of birds than the guides on safaris that are focused only on the big game animals. Sometimes looking for just the big game can get boring, as there are stretches of seeing no animals. Birding safaris are usually more exciting, as the birds are wider dispersed and less time in between sightings. Of course, it can still have parts where there is time between seeing species you have not yet spotted on the trip, but every sighting of the birds can be a possible photo opportunity. It might be the second or more sighting before you get the great photo of the species, as bird photography can sometimes be more tricky than big game photography.
