The Signs of the Impending 2012 Doomsday

There are quite an alarming amount of natural disasters happening these past couple of years, and these have become the fodder for most of the 2012 Doomsday prophecies you've been hearing much of lately. But is there any real truth behind these prophecies? Will the human race and life as we know it cease to exist come 2012? Here are some of the points that doomsday prophets use to back their claims:
1. The Mayan Calendar - According to the ancient Mayan calendar, a cosmic cycle that happens once every 26,000 years will occur on December 21, 2012. On that day it is said that the earth and the moon will be in an exact alignment with the Milky Way galaxy. They do not say that the world will be destroyed; rather what will happen according to them is that there will be an "awakening of the mind" so to speak, as the era of war will give way to an era of peace. This is quite a comforting thought because then you do not have to deal with all the trouble of creating a shelter strong enough to withstand apocalypse.
2. Volcanic Activity - In the last couple of years there has been an increase in the number of volcanic eruptions happening all over the world. Even the volcanoes that have been dormant for hundreds of years are now starting to show some volcanic activity. This increase in eruptions is still a mystery to scientists who are still looking for answers. Nothing says end of days quite like simultaneously erupting volcanoes.
3. Earthquakes - The devastating earthquake that hit Haiti is said to be one of the most destructive one ever to hit the earth, and shortly after there was the killer quake that hit Chile that shifted a whole entire city by as much as ten inches. In almost all countries around the world there has been a significant rise in the number of earthquakes.
4. Famines and Plagues - Due to the extreme climate changes, the weather has now become so unpredictable. There have been longer dry spells in some countries and huge amounts of rain in others, completely destroying their food crops. And due to the unusual weather patterns, famines have been happening almost regularly among the poorer nations of the world. And because of extreme hunger, the body does not have enough energy to fight off diseases, resulting in outbreaks of illnesses among the people, often killing them in the thousands.
These are the signs that 2012 Doomsday believers say guarantee that the world will end. If you think about it, isn't it too much of a coincidence that there happens to be numerous doomsday accounts that seem to foretell the end of days happening at the same year? But doomsday prophecies do have a reputation of not happening. There have been quite a large number of end of the world predictions thrown out in the past, and it is most likely that this 2012 Doomsday scenario will soon join them.
