Things to Do in a Personal Injury Claim

By: Norman Kirby

Many personal injury claims are made every year. It is true that accidents can happen anytime and anywhere you are. But if an injury has been done to you as a result of negligence on the part of the other party then it is only right that he should compensate you for the injuries he caused you. You can make a claim for personal injuries you have suffered physically, emotionally, and mentally. Personal injuries that are caused by vehicular accidents, work-related accidents, accidents that are caused by product defects, medical and dental malpractice, structural defects that caused you to slip, trip, or fall, and military accidents are some of the common personal injuries wherein compensation claims can be made.
So what should you do in case this happens to you? First thing you need to do is to provide proof that the accident occurred. In the documents provided you must show how you were injured. So you need to gather evidence. If it involves a road accident then it should be reported to the police, since they are authorized by the court and insurance company to give a report on the incident. Injuries incurred should have a medical report, so go to the hospital and have yourself examined for injuries if they are minor; otherwise, have yourself admitted to the hospital for treatment. In the case of injuries resulting from tripping, slipping or falling because of a wet floor in a supermarket, loose pavestones, or open manholes, inform the the manager of the company of the accident right away. Pictures and videos would also be good evidence since these should show the injury and how you were injured. Take note of the time it happened and place where it happened. If you have witnesses get their full name and address so that you in turn can provide these necessary information to the authorities. Write a blow by blow account of the incident as soon as you are able to after the accident. This is also the best time to make a written report since it is still fresh in your mind and you can clearly recall it as it happened.
If you are new to this and don't know what to do, it would be better to get the services of a claims assessor. They are in the best position to advise you on what to do. However, you are engaging their services for a fee, but there are accident assessors that offer their services on a no win, no fee arrangement . This means that you get to pay them only if you win the case and there are no unnecessary costs. You get the entire amount of the compensation claim since there will be no deduction. You gain everything and lose nothing in this kind of arrangement. Keep in mind to get claims assessors who are knowledgeable of what they are doing so as not to waste time and money. They should also be government approved . Personal injury claims can be successfully made with the help of a good lawyer and proper documentation.
