If you are planning to learn and master painting from a home study video course, then you should consider carefully what the course offers. Just because its a DVD doesn't mean it's high quality. Making your own DVD's in today's world is actually really easy, so you might find some amateur artists creating their own learn to paint DVD's in an attempt to make some money. Everything begins with learning just the basics. Some DVD programs that I have run into, while offering you good advice, treat you as if you know a little about painting at first. If you are new to painting, then this might just confuse you and you might end up spending a small fortune. This can actually frustrate you to the point of quitting. When you are trying to find a good program learn to paint with, then check the contents. The first place to start is with the instructor. Who is the author? You will need to be comfy with the instructor and confident that they have the ability to teach you correctly. Do your homework on the instructor. They don't have to be a world class artist, because they probably won't be. A top artist is unlikely to be teaching art. They should hopefully, show a large portion of their work online so you can look at it. This will help you find out if the artist's style is anything that you would be interested in learning. Look into their bio, their training history, and how long they have been painting. If you are happy with the teacher, then the next thing you need to check out in is the instruction program. Learning to paint in your home is easy as long as your teacher is open minded, friendly and comprehensive when they teach. You are paying for the program with your hard earned money, so it should work right. A teacher that you need to check out it Gayle Levee, author of Learn & Master Painting.
