Writing Award Winning Fiction - The Steps to Get You There

By: galaxy directvlatin

The Universe works in mysterious ways that -- most typically in ways that we cannot even perceive. I recently received notice that I had written award winning fiction. The funny issue of it is I used to assume that so as on behalf of me to have the house of my dreams -- I would have to be living my dream life -- that of being a best-selling author.

That is not how it worked for me.

Though it took me fifty years to realize my dream house (one that was designed by me and designed beside my husband) I did achieve it (using Law of attraction principles that I've written extensively regarding in alternative locations on EzineArticles). And it's a lovely house nestled on the Western Slope of the Sierra Nevada overlooking God's country and 10 acres of natural wooded hills.

It's my dreaming ground.

Very little did I know that when that life-long dream got fulfilled, all of my dreams would come clamoring at the door, begging entrance and a probability to sup at my table. Warm-heartedly and unabashedly, I opened the door and allow them to ALL in.

I have been a writer since I could hold a pencil. And I have reams and reams and reams of written material from before there have been computers -- which means I had handy-type them all. Or write them by hand.

When I was in my early twenties, I wrote many children's image books that summarily got rejected one when the other -- solely to seek out that one of the publishers I had sent my book to truly printed my book beneath the name of the illustrator. Argh, that was a deep-mining experience, from that I am solely now recovering the gems.

This was all previous to the 1976 copyright law changes that prevented them from doing just that. What I took removed from that event was somehow (convoluted though it could be) I felt I was not good enough.

I failed to understand how untrue that was till just some years ago. If I had just tilted my eyes a small amount and checked out it differently I would have realized that if it is smart enough to steal and publish -- it meant that I was sensible enough to publish!

But as we have a tendency to go through life, and especially if we are operating on regularly improving ourselves, we tend to return to appreciate that our self-worth can not be determined by anyone outside of us. We tend to are the ones who MUST set the quality of our own self-worth. Letting somebody else try this for you is gifting away your power.

What happened next meant a brand new unfolding for me. The numerous books I kept on the rear shelf of my mind started flying towards me, flapping their covers like wings and cooing at me, hovering higher than my head, 1st this one, then that one, till finally one touched down.

Though I had completed a non-fiction book before I wrote this novella, I did not extremely count that as half of my repertoire as a result of non-fiction is very not my gig. Non-fiction is something I do easily having been a newspaper editor and reporter for many years. Non-fiction, to me, is not writing -- it's typing -- to steal a quote from Robin Williams doing a parody of Truman Capote.

I like to put in writing fiction as a result of in fiction, spirit will speak more freely to the reader while not the writer obtaining in the way. Fiction is more durable to put in writing as a result of it has to create sense. Truth will not. And the reality in fiction is that the one the reader assigns to it -- it is not that of the writer. Fiction may be a personal experience.

That's the method I wish to write.

Keep that in mind after you write fiction. Your fiction should build sense whether or not you are asking your readers to suspend their disbelief. Create it sensible.

Therefore how do you write award-winning fiction? Follow these few steps and you'll notice yourself on your manner to changing into a bequest winning fiction wrter:

Write merely -- and write as you speak. Do not have an effect on a voice that's not you -- this bleeds through the writing and gets everywhere the reader. They are doing not like it. It is messy and sticky.
Start with topics you recognize -- even in fiction -- it's more real that way.
Leave the Litter-A-Chure at the door -- Speak to your readers, do not strive to impress them along with your vocabulary. Otherwise you're simply masturbating on the page in public. Nobody needs to watch. Trust me.
Open a vein -- Lawrence Block said that and he's correct. Write from your heart, not your head.
A good yarn goes a protracted way -- and remember it is SHOW them not TELL them.
Writer's write -- Notice a manner to write each day. EVERY DAY! One author wrote a mere hour a day and created a lot of than fifty novels doing simply that.
Create dialogue that's real -- there's nothing worse than stilted dialogue. Write like folks talk. If you wish help, attend the mall and sit where you can hear folks talk, record their conversations on paper to urge a "feel" for dialogue.
Develop a perspective and stick to it. Unless you are extremely good, stick to one perspective, tell the story from one purpose of view.
Miss the boring stuff -- If it does not any the story - don't place it in.
The underside line is that after you write, write during a manner that keeps the reader turning the page. Draw them in -- build them want to find out how it ends. Even if they are doing not just like the ending -- if you write well enough, they will read it cover to cover. They will say "I hate that book.," of "what a stupid ending," or "I cudda done better."
However they read it and felt something regarding it. And to me -- that is what it's all about anyway.

Getting your readers to feel.

I used to be therefore stoked when I recently received this unsolicited review of my book, "...this book should be scan by millions..." I perpetually thought that myself -- not as a result of of some egoistic need, but as a result of this small novella really has healing inside it -- fiction story and all. After I wrote it, it was additional like I channeled it -- I watched a movie and tried in the simplest manner possible to describe what I used to be seeing.
